Contact: Deputy Head of Communications, Stephanie Hood

shood@mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de

The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science offers guest residencies for journalists. These fellowships, for up to two months each, give journalists the opportunity to gain insights into current research in the disciplines of history, philosophy, politics, and the sociology of science; to network with MPIWG scholars; and to carry out a journalistic project in these areas. Fellowship holders will be able to use the extensive library and research resources of the Institute for their work and to attend cross-disciplinary colloquia and workshops. During their stay, Journalists in Residence are attached to the department or research group of the Institute that best matches their research proposal. They are mentored by the Communications team.

Remuneration for the period of the residency is €3,000 per month. The MPIWG also provides desk space at the Institute.

The objectives of this fellowship program are to support high-quality journalism in the area of the history of science and related disciplines, promote the public dissemination of topics in that field, stimulate awareness of the role of the humanities and social sciences in science communication, and strengthen the dialogue that the history of science can create among the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. At the same time, the program helps Institute scholars to find ways of improving the public communication of their research. For this reason, each Journalist in Residence offers a workshop for scholars and Institute on a theme related to journalism or communication.

We welcome applications from all fields, including print, radio or audio, video, and online journalism.

Current fellowships for journalists are publicly advertised on our website and through relevant online media outlets. Please submit your application in German or English through our online application portal. The job advertisement will include the portal link and information regarding the requirements and documentation.
